Tuesdays with Ryz

Don’t do things for the approval of others. You will never be able to fulfill the expectations of others, just as you will never be able to know what those expectations are for you from those fans you are looking to please. Instead, firmly stand for the choices you have made - choices in who you are, what you do and what you stand for. You choose how you present yourself to this world, who you share it with and what you do with the gifts God has given to you. Do what it is that brings you to your...

Life is short. We spend so much of our time worrying about the small things that, in the grand scheme of things, really aren’t that big of a deal. Think about it…how often do you worry, complain, gossip, compare, wish, want or wait for something bigger and better instead of focusing on all of the simple blessings that surround us every single day.  Your life is so meaningful that God, nature, or whomever you believe in, thought your presence on this earth today was essential to life moving forward.  Life is fragile and one single moment can change it all....

Christmas was always the time of year I looked forward to growing up.  Even now, during February, April, July, whenever, I find myself thinking of stockings hung by the chimney with care and a marshmallow world outside our window.  The Christmas season is one that is so amazingly impressive to me.  Not because of the gifts we receive, but the gifts we give every day.  Smiles are a little bigger.  Hugs and handshakes are a little firmer.  Words have more meaning.  For one time throughout the year, we are the person and the people we all hoped we could be....

Empty chairs around the table. Fewer place settings.  A smaller than normal turkey to carve.  No one lining the streets of New York for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  This Thanksgiving is definitely going to look a lot different than we are used to.  Par for the course, right?   It seems that this year, we are all willing 2020 to end sooner than later.  Think about it: just 3 weeks ago, stores couldn't wait to rid the shelves of Halloween decor in order to replace it with Christmas decorations, radio stations flipped the switch to holiday music and Hallmark movies are on full repeat...

We can only do so much. That’s the challenge most people deal with on a daily basis. While we give and give and give, we find it's just not enough for the world around us. We try to do more than we are supposed to instead of focusing on simply doing what we are supposed to. Maybe it's because we're looking for the praise of someone in our lives or our 30 seconds of fame on social media. Or maybe it's because we're trying to get that bonus or promotion from our boss as a “Go Getter.” Or maybe, just maybe, it...

Is this it?  Is this all life has to offer now?  Many of us have asked this as our world, both our own personal bubble and collective society, is shaken to its core.  While news media outlets, social media and outward signs of expressions from people of all opinions cloud our feeds and freedoms, we are left asking what will become of our lives?  What will become of our country?  While we ask these questions, we find comfort in the fact that our core guiding principles of this country were founded on one thing: a belief that we can have...

The charcoal was lit. The hot dogs and hamburgers were ready. The pools were open (for the most part) and the heat was on this past weekend. Memorial Day finally arrived and brought with it a freedom to return to some normalcy, as the weather pushed us out of the house with a taste of summer.  This year, this holiday seems to take on a different tone and meaning. While we enjoyed this day with family and friends (from a safe, social distance of course), it served as a reminder of not only the freedoms that have slowly returned after...

The worry continues to build and grow.  Are we safe enough to go back "normal?" Will we be ready to handle the new rules and guidelines?  What will the world look like?  The infection that has quarantined us for over a month has no expiration, but our country is getting ready to flip the "CLOSED" sign to "OPEN."  In the midst of this, we need to focus our attention on safety and on being mindful of how we behave, interact and go about our daily life.  As the infection continues to silently do the same, because it is still ever present in...
