Meet our 898 Summer Interns

Each year, 898 Marketing brings on a team of spirited, ready-to-learn interns to assist with summer projects and workload. This year, we are working with four new interns to provide an opportunity for them to gain first-hand experience in many different aspects of marketing ranging from graphic design to social media.

Mireille Rhodes, Video Content

If you’re pronouncing her name the way it is spelled, odds are you may be wrong. It is actually pronounced as Mur-Ray— it’s French! A recent graduate of Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana, Mireille received her Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree in Film Production with a focus in Broadcasting and Visual Effects.

I’ve always been a visual artist, and video storytelling seemed like the best and most exciting way to express and share ideas. Also, I love when creatives collaborate to bring a single vision to life.

Mireille Rhodes
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“My dream job is to become a visual effects artist, building elements that can be used to enhance the experience of the viewer. In 10 years, I see myself working in the media industry, as well as painting and pursuing my passion for flower photography.”

What do you hope to gain from interning at 898?

“I hope to gain experience in the corporate media workflow and standards and a good sense of workplace community. Everyone at 898 has been kind and awesome to work with, and I’m excited to bring this energy and professionalism wherever I go.”

Nicole Joseph, Graphic Design

Nicole is an Ohio native, but she says her heart is in Banff, Canada. Nicole is a student at Kent State University with an expected graduation date of December 2022. She is majoring in visual communication design and has not one, but two minors: user experience design and web design and development.

I want to stay within the art field and be able to grow within the tech community.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“A career goal of mine is to work in a creative design role that I am passionate about. I want to seek something that challenges me as a designer. So, 10 years from now, I see myself working as a graphic or user experience designer in Sweden.”

What do you hope to gain from interning at 898?

“At 898, I hope to learn how to communicate more effectively within a team and to improve my design skills.”

Lauryn Laney, Social Media

Lauryn is a recent graduate of the University of Akron where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in media studies with a minor in organizational communication. When she is not studying up on the best social media practices, Lauryn enjoys cooking and baking various dishes.

I chose communication because I originally wanted to do something along the lines of video production which I had a lot of experience in. But as I started to get into the media industry and social media courses, I became interested in the media industry as a whole.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

“My goal is to work in media relations, but my dream job would be an interior designer. I love decorating and creating inviting spaces that are homely and congenial. In 10 years from now, I see myself with a career in media relations, a master’s degree, and possibly starting my own business.”

What do you hope to gain from interning at 898?

“I want to learn and gain experience in the different aspects of marketing and social media. I also hope to make genuine connections with the people at 898. I want to learn from people who have experience in the areas I want to grow and expand my skills in.”

Rod Kaiser, Digital Marketing

Rod is a student at The Ohio State University. In fact, Rod is one of the co-founders of the disc golf club at OSU. He will be entering his senior year in the fall, majoring in Business Administration with a specialization in marketing, and minoring in general psychology. Rod has been involved in various administrative roles in organizations, as well as a small student start-up laundry business, which is the reasoning behind his decision to pursue marketing.

Throughout my time in those small business roles, I gravitated towards marketing and chose to pursue it as my career.
