3 Reasons Why Video Content Can Be Effective for Your Social Media Channels

As marketers, we are all familiar with social media and the role it plays in our day-to-day work.  We must be well versed in trends and understand the strategies that come with executing effective social media marketing strategies.  One aspect of social media marketing that has become more popular recently (and isn’t slowing down) is video content. You don’t need to look much further than sites like YouTube to see how critical videos are in today’s marketing landscape.  While photos and text are certainly effective strategies and should always be used, video has been on a steady ascent in popularity and is more appealing to social media users. With the new year around the corner making it the perfect time to discuss videos, here are 3 reasons why you need to start incorporating videos into your social media strategy.

Videos Foster Trust with Consumers

Building trust with your target consumers is a top priority in content marketing strategies. Videos help foster trust with consumers by allowing people to see and know who is selling to them. They also can inform and educate viewers about your brand. This establishes a level of comfort and makes people more willing to engage with your brand, or make a purchase. Videos are also a more clear and concise way to share information about your brand, or simply entertain those in your audience, both of which build trust and will keep them coming back.

Videos Can Quickly and Effectively Convey a Message

I’m sure you’ve heard someone say, “people have no attention span these days,” at some point recently. Well, whether you believe this to be true or not, video content can be a perfect way to quickly and effectively capture an audience and convey a message. It doesn’t take long to share information or entertain someone in video form.  It can be much more effective and timely for people to watch a video than spend time reading an article (ironic as I write this, I know). Because videos don’t have to be super long, they can share information much more clearly. Videos also allow viewers to visualize whatever your topic is much easier. Therefore, you can capture an audience, communicate a clear message, and share information about your brand all in a short video.

Videos Increase Engagement on Social Media

Simply put, video content can increase engagement on your social media pages. As mentioned previously, websites such as YouTube show how prominent video content is today, and that has trickled over into other social media platforms. In 14 Reasons Why You Need to Use Video Content Marketing, Ramona Sukhraj shares that 75 million people in the United States alone watch videos daily as of 2017. That leaves a TON of space to find the audience you need with your video content. In addition, Sukhraj states that videos on social media generate 1,200% more shares than text and image content combined. This is a direct result of videos fostering trust and not taking up too much of the viewers’ time, and also puts your brand in front of more people.

Video content has really taken over social media, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Because of their nature, videos can quickly share information, help people visualize what you’re talking about, and build trust with your audience. People will also be more likely to engage with your brand on social media as a result of video content. So, with Christmas and the New Year right around the corner, now is the perfect time to plan how your company can benefit from video content.
