Tuesdays With Ryz – Grow Up

“Grow up!”  How many times have you heard that?  Whether you were a kid or trying to be one, so many times others have told us how we should ether act our age or, worse yet, to act older than we actually are to fit in, to behave or to just be what someone else wanted us to be to make them look better.  Now that we are adults, we forget what it is like to be a kid.

While we still get to “play” as adults, the curiosity, the optimism, the resilience and the empathy we have for life, in general, gets replaced with the challenges and pressures the world brings for us as we grow older.  We overlook the small pleasures in life and focus on the small things that might bring minor inconveniences.  We worry about what might happen instead of enjoying what is happening.

This week, take a moment to “be a kid.”  No, this doesn’t mean to regress, but it does mean to approach each and every day with a sense of innocence and whimsical potential to the greatness that the day will bring.  Whether the day goes sideways or exactly as planned, the joy and happiness of just being you is where being a kid can be liberating from the adult challenges that confront you every day.

So, this week, be a kid and see the world through a much simpler and happy lens.  Maybe, just maybe, it will cause someone else to see that growing up doesn’t mean you have to lose the happiness that being a kid provided.  Hope this made you smile and helped brighten your week, but if you might need something else, remember, I’m here for you if you need me.
